Silencers / Noise Reduced Ventilation
Rooms with machinery and equipment often generate a lot of heat. This heat must be dissipated effectively to keep the temperature below the maximum – usually 40 °C -. ALARA has extensive experience in calculating and realizing the right amount of cooling air to prevent overheating. In doing so, we also ensure that noise from the machines cannot escape to the outside through vents. We supply both individual silencers and complete, customized soundproof ventilation sets in every conceivable size and with every conceivable noise requirement. These sets combine our knowledge of noise and airflow and can be equipped with grilles, filters, control valves and fans, so that you are always assured of a quiet and efficient installation.
Our solutions guarantee:
- Necessary noise reduction;
- Optimal airflow;
- Reliable temperature control;
- Maximum pressure.

Frequently asked questions
Noise Reduced Ventilation is an integrated solution that provides sufficient air supply and heat dissipation while simultaneously reducing noise from a technical installation. In many industrial applications, ventilation is essential to ensure that installations operate safely and reliably. Without additional measures, however, a ventilation opening can become a significant source of noise.
ALARA develops ventilation sets in which ventilation, cooling, and acoustic performance are combined from the initial design phase. This ensures that the installation continues to perform optimally while meeting the required noise limits.
Many technical installations continuously generate heat. Examples include generator sets, compressors, transformers, and HVAC installations. If this heat is not effectively dissipated, it can lead to overheating, reduced performance, or even installation failure.
At the same time, every ventilation opening creates a potential path through which noise can escape. An effective noise-control solution therefore requires careful design in which airflow and acoustics are perfectly balanced.
ALARA takes both aspects into account during the design process, ensuring that ventilation never compromises noise reduction.
Combining sufficient airflow with low noise levels requires specialist knowledge of both ventilation technology and acoustics. Depending on the application, ALARA uses solutions including:
- Acoustic ventilation ducts
- Silencers
- Acoustic ventilation grilles
- Optimized airflows
- Pressure-drop calculations
- CFD-supported airflow analyses where required
- Sound-absorbing lining
By designing these techniques as an integrated system, sufficient air can be transported without unnecessary noise emissions.sie.
Ventilation sets are used in virtually every technical installation where heat generation and noise control need to be addressed together. Common applications include:
- Generator sets
- Emergency power installations
- Data centers
- Transformers
- Compressors
- Pump rooms
- Technical buildings
- Power plants
- Industrial production lines
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
For every application, the ventilation system is tailored to the required airflow, heat load, and desired acoustic performance.
A silencer is an acoustic component used to reduce noise within airflows. Silencers are installed in ventilation ducts, air intakes, air outlets, or exhaust systems and absorb or attenuate sound waves before they reach the surrounding environment.
The choice of a specific silencer depends on factors such as:
- Type of installation
- Air velocity
- Noise frequency
- Available space
- Required noise reduction
By carefully balancing these factors, ALARA develops silencers that deliver optimal performance without unnecessarily restricting airflow.
A well-designed ventilation concept is essential to the reliability of technical installations. During the design process, ALARA assesses the heat generated by the installation and determines how much airflow is required to keep the installation within the desired operating temperature range.
Factors taken into account include:
- Cooling capacity
- Airflow rate
- Pressure drop
- Air distribution
- Ambient temperature
- Operating duration
- Future expansions
By considering these aspects early in the design process, the resulting installation performs optimally from both a thermal and acoustic perspective.
Every installation has different requirements regarding air supply, heat dissipation, and noise reduction. Each project therefore begins with a technical analysis of the installation and its operating conditions. During the design process, ALARA considers factors including:
- Heat generation
- Required airflow
- Available space
- Position of air intakes and outlets
- Maintenance access
- Noise regulations
- Energy consumption
- Weather conditions
Based on this information, a ventilation system is developed that integrates optimally with the application.
Yes. Data centers are among the most critical environments when it comes to ventilation and noise control. Installations such as emergency generators, UPS systems, and cooling equipment generate both heat and noise, while maximum operational reliability is required.
ALARA develops ventilation solutions that provide:
- Reliable cooling
- Low noise emissions
- Optimal airflows
- Easy maintenance access
- Integration with generator enclosures and containers
This ensures that installations continue to operate reliably without exposing the surrounding environment to excessive noise.
A well-designed ventilation system not only reduces noise but can also contribute to more efficient energy use. By carefully optimizing airflows, unnecessary pressure losses are prevented, reducing the amount of energy required to move sufficient air.
In addition, a well-designed ventilation concept prevents overheating, allowing installations to operate more efficiently and extending the service life of components. A carefully engineered design therefore provides not only acoustic benefits but also a positive contribution to overall operating costs.
A standard ventilation system is primarily designed to move air and dissipate heat. In industrial installations, however, this is often insufficient. Without acoustic measures, noise can propagate freely through ventilation openings.
An acoustic ventilation system combines airflow engineering with noise reduction. Ventilation ducts, silencers, grilles, and airflows are designed so that the installation receives sufficient cooling while noise levels are minimized.
This integrated approach is precisely what distinguishes a specialist solution from a standard ventilation system.
Ventilation and noise control cannot be considered separately. A solution focused solely on maximum noise reduction can restrict airflow, while a standard ventilation system can result in unwanted noise emissions. ALARA combines expertise in acoustics, airflow engineering, and general engineering to develop ventilation solutions that deliver optimal technical and acoustic performance.
Clients benefit from:
- Custom engineering
- Optimal airflows
- Reliable cooling
- High acoustic performance
- Durable materials
- Easy maintenance access
- Complete turnkey project management
The result is a future-proof solution that meets the requirements of both the installation and its surroundings.
Yes. In virtually every project, ventilation is only one component of the overall noise-control solution. Noise Reduced Ventilation is often combined with:
- Sound-insulating enclosures
- Custom containers
- Sound-insulating walls
- Acoustic grilles
- Exhaust silencers
- Vibration isolation
By designing all systems as an integrated solution, ventilation, noise reduction, safety, and maintenance can be optimally coordinated.
