Steel Door Frames for Arthouse Cinema in multifunctional building De Hooghe Delft in Nieuw Delft

With De Hooghe Delft, a striking new building has been realized in the heart of the Nieuw Delft area development. Developed and constructed by Vink Bouw, this architectural landmark brings together culture, work, and living in a robust 41-meter-high tower.

The multifunctional building houses Filmhuis Lumen on the lower floors, including hospitality facilities and modern cinema auditoriums. Above these are office spaces, and on the top eight floors, 27 luxury owner-occupied apartments have been realized.

Project Properties: Steel door frames

Client: Gemeente Delft

Contractor: Vink Bouw

The design by Ronald Janssen Architecten is characterized by a powerful, three-dimensional façade that creates a dynamic appearance and a strong interaction between light and space. For its realization, Vink Bouw installed a total of 316 columns and 284 façade elements.

Sustainable construction with respect for nature

De Hooghe Delft seamlessly aligns with the sustainability and nature-inclusive building ambitions of both Vink Bouw and the Municipality of Delft. The building is entirely gas-free and uses an ATES (Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage) system for heating and cooling. Rainwater is discharged in a controlled manner, and a green roof contributes to cooling and biodiversity. In addition, nesting and resting facilities for birds and insects have been integrated into the design.

Following the start of construction in February 2024, the project is now nearing completion.

ALARA’s contribution: steel door frames for Filmhuis Lumen

For De Hooghe Delft, ALARA supplied the special acoustic and fire-rated doors for Filmhuis Lumen on the ground floor. All doors are custom-made and meet the highest standards in terms of fire safety and sound insulation. Safety is central: in the event of fire or other emergencies, visitors must be able to leave the building quickly and safely.

The doors for the smaller auditoriums (up to 100 persons) are designed in accordance with EN 179 and produced in ALARA’s own factory. For the larger auditoriums, doors complying with EN 1125 have been installed. The doors achieve a sound insulation value (Rw,p) of 45 to 56 dB. ALARA strictly complies with applicable safety regulations.

From an acoustic perspective, the doors also make an important contribution to comfort within the cinema: sound from the auditoriums does not escape, and external noise is kept out, even during very quiet films.

ALARA B.V. develops and produces a wide range of sound-insulating and fire-resistant doors for various applications, including data centers, leisure buildings, and infrastructure projects.
