Customized Containers for Emergency Power Supply in Data Centres

Customized containers for emergency power supplies in data centres

ALARA was recently awarded a contract to build a large number of customized containers to house emergency power generators consisting of gas-fired engines, thereby minimising emissions.

Emergency power supplies are essential for data centres to ensure the continuity of their services. Large internal combustion engines are typically used for this purpose, which generate significant noise emissions.

ALARA reduces these noise emissions to very low levels. Thanks to our expertise in noise control, ventilation and temperature regulation, we are the preferred partner for many data centre owners. We take care of everything for our customers throughout the entire process: from design and engineering to the manufacture, delivery and integration of all essential components, ranging from generator sets to safety relays.

A prestigious and pioneering project in the Benelux
featuring advanced noise reduction

This is a prestigious and innovative project in the Benelux, in which the bespoke containers stand out for their advanced soundproofing and a carefully designed ventilation system for supplying cooling and combustion air to the built-in emergency power generators.

To ensure that on-site installation proceeds as efficiently as possible, a modular design has been adopted. This allows the individual modules to be assembled and tested as fully as possible at ALARA’s production facility, after which they are installed on site quickly and efficiently. Thanks to our spacious production site and extensive experience as a systems integrator, we are among the major players in this market.

Thanks to our extensive expertise in engineering, production and assembly, we are able to deliver large numbers of containers on a turnkey basis within a relatively short timeframe.

Successful high-performance pilot setup

On Tuesday 9 June 2026, the pilot system was successfully presented to the client for inspection and acceptance. The fully integrated system, which was also built entirely by ALARA, performed better than expected. In particular, the sound-insulated ventilation solution more than met the specified requirements. The client therefore expressed great satisfaction with the result.

Following the successful inspection, the test setup was dismantled the following day, to be reassembled later at its permanent location. Over the coming period, ALARA will manufacture and deliver the remaining containers for this customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are emergency power supplies important for data centres?

Emergency power supplies are essential for data centres to ensure the continuity of critical IT systems and digital services. In the event of a power cut, emergency generators immediately take over the power supply, ensuring that servers, networks and business-critical processes remain operational.

How does ALARA minimise noise pollution from emergency power generators?

ALARA designs and builds sound-insulated enclosures for emergency power generators, combining advanced acoustic solutions with efficient ventilation and cooling systems. This significantly reduces noise emissions from large gas and diesel engines without affecting the system’s performance.

What is a soundproofed container for a generator set?

A soundproof container is a specially designed enclosure in which an emergency power generator is housed. The container contains high-quality sound-insulating materials, ventilation systems and safety features to minimise both noise pollution and operational risks.
